Frequently Asked Questions

What is Muay Thai?

Muay Thai, also known as the "Art of Eight Limbs," is a traditional martial art and combat sport from Thailand. It combines punches, kicks, knees, and elbows with clinching techniques, making it a full-body workout and an effective form of self-defense.

Do I need prior experience to join?

No! Our classes are designed to accommodate all skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Our experienced instructors will guide you every step of the way.

What should I wear to my first class?

The required gear package available in our store.( Roots Muay Thai T-Shirt, Muay Thai shorts, gloves and shin guards.) Please also bring shoes to run in.

How often should I train?

This depends on your goals and fitness level. Beginners often start with 2-3 sessions per week, while more experienced students may train daily.

Why doesn’t Muay Thai have a belt system, and how do you keep members engaged?

Unlike some martial arts, Muay Thai does not use a traditional belt ranking system. Instead, progress is measured through skill development, consistency, and individual growth. Practitioners focus on mastering techniques, improving fitness, and, for some, preparing for sparring or competition. At Roots Muay Thai, we keep members motivated through structured class levels, personalized feedback from instructors, and clear milestones to track progress. We also host workshops, sparring sessions, and events to keep training exciting and rewarding. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defense, or competition, there’s always a new challenge to pursue in Muay Thai!
